As mentioned in the previous reports I had little luck getting a sale through the proposals I sent out. I’ve had phone calls with potential clients, but due to lack of trust / social proof, they decided they’d rather pass for now.
Last month I then decided I wanted to take on one to three wedding planners and offer each of them 30 hours of SEO, (10 hours/month x 3 months) against them providing me with a testimonial after our trial project finishes.
My plan was simply to reach out to a few of the wedding planners who had responded to my industry-report emails and offer them this service.
I found one candidate almost immediately and we’ve already been working together for almost a month. Not only will this hopefully result in a good testimonial I can use later on, but just as importantly, it gives me a unique insight into this industry and I’m able to get a feel for how it’ll be helping wedding planners book more weddings. I never thought about doing this before, but it’s actually a great way to get inside information to an industry and if I had to do this all over again I could imagine testing several industries out like this for 2-3 months.
I was also contacted by one of the wedding planners who had initially turned down one of my proposals. She’s had more time thinking about it and she was interested in a website audit, which is essentially a report where I tell her about the on-page SEO problems I’ve identified through a manual review, alongside my tips for fixing these issues.
So far it has only been a one-time job, but hopefully, I can turn it into more in the coming months.
I’ve also continued working on my industry reports and so far I’ve gathered information on roughly 250 wedding planner companies. I still need to edit and publish some of the industry reports I’ve gathered information for and I expect to do this next month.
I spent most of my time communicating with potential clients/responders along with researching for new industry reports. The last two’ish hours for this month was spent fixing minor website issues related to content and design.
Monthly status in numbers
- Time spent this month: 10 hours.
- Time spent in total: 30 hours.
- New clients this month: 1.
- Clients in total: 1.
- One-off income this month: $750.
- Ongoing income: $0.
- Total income so far: $750.
- Expenses in total: $30
Plan moving forward
My initial idea is to keep working on the industry reports, emailing the involved wedding planners and continue working with my one “free” client.
I got a lot of advanced ideas related to content production, packing my services etc. but I want my first few on-going clients before implementing some of these more time-consuming strategies. There’s really no point doing all the fancy things if it turns out that the audience I’m targeting isn’t interested in my service at all, so for the moment, landing the first few clients is priority one. I can scale and grow further from there.
